Vice President?… VICE-PRESIDENT!!!

August 26th, 2008

Had my English for Interpretation class just now where the Prof chanced upon the word "Vice". Wanting to explain to us, she used an old series "Miami Vice" as an example. From what I got is that the word "Vice" means something immoral and a bad habit… Hmmm…

Following my train of thoughts I went back and checked the meaning in the Internet since I’m in lacking of a good dictionary in university. Here are the meanings of the word "Vice" quoted from Dictionary.com…

vice1

–noun

1. an immoral or evil habit or practice.
        2. immoral conduct; depraved or degrading behavior: a life of vice.
        3.
sexual immorality, esp. prostitution.
        4. a particular form of depravity.
        5. a fault, defect, or shortcoming: a minor vice in his literary style.
        6.
a physical defect, flaw, or infirmity: a constitutional vice.
        7.
a bad habit, as in a horse.
        8. (initial capital letter) a character in the English morality plays, a
personification of general vice or of a particular vice, serving as the buffoon.

Okay, here’s my train of thoughts… So… What about VICE-PRESIDENT then???

    If Vice = immoral.
And President = a person who presides.
Then Vice + President = IMMORAL LEADER???

To my relief there’s another explanation for it… As I scroll down Dictionary.com I found another meaning (And it was almost at the end of the page!!!)…

vice- [vais]
second in rank and acting as deputy for
        Example: the Vice-President; the vice-chairman

I guess the dash in between the word does play a role after all! Though small and unnoticeable but it still has a significance… (Waahhh I sounded so philosophical here…)

Here’s the moral of the day! It’s not advisable to use mathematics and words together!!! Hahaha… And also have a GOOD dictionary by your side always!!! Hahaha… (Hey that makes 2 morals for the day already… [A clash of my train of thoughts...])

P.S.: To all the Vice-Presidents out there who might chanced upon this entry… No
offense ya… Just some enlightening thoughts… I know someone who’s gonna              get me for sure dy… But she’s in Terengganu now!!! Hee… I’ve escaped her
wrath!!! Hey wait… what if she reads it when she’s back??? (Hence the clash of           the train of thoughts again…)

FYP…

August 7th, 2008

Yay!!! Woohoo!!! Finally gotten my glasswares and washed them properly… Now waiting to autoclave it, then I can start of with my project dy…

Yeah, now I’m in final yr dy… With a project of my own… The title??? Haha… Hard 2 explain, to cut the story short… It’s extracting DNA from baby fishes (No… I dun have to kill them… =P) and using DNA markers to identify the parentage genetic information they have inherited from their papa and mama fishes… Hahaha…

  If u went :"Huh???" Imagine CSI, using all the long pipettes and pipetting the DNA into small long tubes (called appendrof tubes) and centrifuging it and stuff. I also need 2 do gel electrophoresis and using PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) to separate the DNA from proteins… Sounds complicated rite? Hope I can do all of this!!! :}

Yeah I’ve received comments like :"Boring topic… Mine’s more interesting…" Whatever… I’m satisfied coz I always have had an interest in genetics and DNA. Now being able to enter a DNA lab (though not very sophisticated… Wakaka… XD … But it’s still something…) and doing all the "cool" stuffs it’s seems like a dream come true. And I give the credit to God and God alone! He knows what’s my dreams and desires; He knows how dismayed I am when I wasn’t able to enter Microbiology in the 1st place; He knows my interest in animals; He knows my sad and confused feelings when I found out about my supervisor who’s a lecturer under Botany field (How did Zoology students ended under him I also dunno…); He knows my AMPLIFIED sad  feelings when I realized that my supervisor is actually the vice dean and we waited like for 2 weeks before getting hold of him to get our topics; He knows how troubled I am when I am told that we need to do our thesis in BM; He knows how tiring I am to run all over the campus to get materials for the projects; He knows how small and intimidated I feel in the lab and amongst the super seniors…  Believe me, He knows.

That’s why I’m giving Him credit to what’s happening in my life too… I thank Him for giving me this topic which I’m really interested in and He knows interest spurs me on; I thank Him for angels around guiding me through the project and giving me help though they’re not required to; I thank Him for smooth preparations so far; I thank Him for a loosely- packed timetable so far to accommodate all my lab works; I thank Him for understanding family members and friends who encourage me and give me advices; I thank Him for CF mates who help me out with stuffs when they know how busy I am; I thank Him for a friend who extended her home and family when I desperately needed rest and food (I devoured a big lunch at their place… and fruits and ice creams… ;) ); I thank Him for church members who encourages me through their life, their testimony, their teachings and their smiles…

Why "jiwang" all the sudden you might ask? Well, probably it’s my FINAL YEAR… Time does seem definite after all… It’s not indefinite… or infinity… It seems to be measurable all of a sudden… And you suddenly realized that you’re running out of it, and you need to treasure it and prepare to say goodbyes…

Oh well, whatever comes will come! Jz cherish with what we have now and thank God everyday for it, coz deep down you know you do not deserve it but it’s all by His grace, love, mercy and blessings that you get enter USM, study this course, serving Him in campus ministry, meeting a bunch of amazing ppl, and doin this FYP… Thank You Lord! =)

P.S: In case you dunno what’s FYP… It’s Final Year Project!!! =)
